How To Verify The Authenticity of Korean Beauty Products? | Recognise Fake Botox, Fillers, etc

The world of Korean beauty products has taken the skincare and aesthetic industry by storm, with its innovative formulations and effective results. However, with the rise in popularity, the market has also seen an increase in counterfeit products. Fake Korean beauty products not only fail to deliver the promised results but can also pose serious health risks.

In this article, we will explore how to distinguish between fake and genuine Korean beauty products in several popular categories, including botulinum toxins, fillers, fat dissolvers, facial threads, numbing cream, injectables & more.

How To Verify The Authenticity of Korean Beauty Products?

Various verification tools have been introduced by Korean beauty brands. These tools are designed to help customers differentiate between GENUINE products and counterfeit imitations. ONE of the most trustworthy ways to verify a product is to look for a hidden tag verification or QR codes. With smartphone apps you can scan these unique tags or QR codes on the product packaging. Your app will authenticate the product by verifying the hidden tag's information. Counterfeit products are unlikely to have these hidden tags or will fail the verification process.

We'll go over which Korean brands use these types of verification methods as of July 2023:

1. Hidden Tag App

Products using these Hidden Tags are the Caratfill DEEP, SUB-Q, KISS Fillers, Caratfill Skinbooster PN+HA, Lithe skin care solution, GANA CH Filler, GANA HA body Rejuran Skin Booster, Rejuran S, Rejuran True Skin and Rejuran HB.

To verify the authenticity of these products using the Hidden Tag App, follow these steps:

  • Download the Hidden Tag app.
  • Open the app and navigate to the section where you can scan or input the unique QR code or hidden tag found on the product packaging.
  • Position your smartphone's camera over the QR code or hidden tag and allow the app to scan it. Alternatively, manually enter the code if asked.
  • The app will then authenticate the product and provide you with a verification result. It should confirm whether the product is genuine or potentially counterfeit.

2. ICS Certification App

NEO-CAIN 500G and J-CAIN 500G are using the ICS Certification App, which works similar to the Hidden Tag App.

3. Company QR Code

For products like Repair cream for face, BB Glow, Aqua Stem Cell Ampoule, Whitening Stem Cell Ampoule, AC Gold Ampoule, Aqua Stem Cell Ampoule, Aqua Shining Sun Block, Bellmona BIO Signal Eye Cream, Bellmona Holding Time Tox Cream, 1.st NEFER TI TI SOLUTION, 1st BLANJU Skin Boosters, Rejuner Black, Red, Gold , Wellsfill, Sedyfill 60cc Wizyox and Tox ta you will find a QR code on the box from the manufacturer.

You can Follow these steps to verify your product:

  • FIRST, Locate the QR code on the product packaging.
  • SECOND, Scan the QR code using your smartphone's camera or a QR code scanning app.
  • THIRD, The QR code will redirect you to a website or landing page specified by the company.
  • AND LAST, The website or landing page should display verification information.

4. Scratch QR Codes

Products like Kabelline, Touch UP, Touch BR, Beads Max Classic-H, Beads Max Classic-S, DBP Nanoneedle and DBP Nano Cannula have scratch QR codes.

To verify the authenticity of these products using scratch QR codes, follow these steps:

  • Locate the scratch-off section on the product packaging.
  • Carefully scratch off the designated area to reveal the QR code.
  • Scan the QR code using your smartphone's camera or a QR code scanning app.
  • The QR code will redirect you to a website or landing page provided by the brand.
  • AND LASTLY, Follow the instructions on the website or landing page to verify the product's authenticity. This may involve entering the unique code revealed by scratching the QR code.

By following these steps, you can use these apps, company QR codes, OR scratch QR codes to verify the authenticity of products. ALWAYS make sure you have downloaded official apps and refer to official websites from the manufacturers for verification.

For brands that don’t use ANY of these verification processes, there are other ways to detect fake products.

5. Packaging & Printing

One of the first signs of fake Korean products is a discrepancy in packaging and printing. Authentic products usually have high-quality packaging materials and precise printing with clear branding and product information. Counterfeit products may have blurry logos, misspelled words, or poor-quality packaging.

HOWEVER, PLEASE also note that it’s fairly common for Korean brands to have different packaging designs based on the country of export. A good example of this is J-Cain Numbing Cream which has multiple different product colors for the local Korean market and the international market. Other products that have multiple package designs are Dermaheal, Hyaron and Spider Aqua eye booster.

6. Batch Number and Expiration Dates

Always check the batch numbers and expiration dates on the product packaging. Genuine Korean products have accurate and properly printed batch numbers and expiration dates.

Fake products may have incorrect or inconsistent information, including smudged or poorly printed details.

7. Holographic Stickers or Seals

Many authentic Korean beauty products come with holographic stickers or seals as an ADDITIONAL security measure. These holograms are difficult to replicate and can help verify the authenticity of the product.

Counterfeit products may lack or have poorly designed holographic stickers.

8. MFDS Approved Products

The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety of the Republic of Korea (MFDS, formerly known as KFDA) is responsible for regulating and approving beauty and medical products in South Korea. Genuine Korean products are MFDS approved. PLEASE, note that only products can be MFDS approved, NOT vendors or retailers.

To summarize, it is important to pay attention to packaging, batch numbers, holographic stickers, KFDA approval, and hidden tags or QR codes. This way you can protect yourself from potentially harmful and ineffective counterfeit Korean products. Remember, investing in authentic products not only ensures your safety, but ALSO guarantees the desired results for your skincare and aesthetic needs.
